How the ranking works
An ELO system, like in chess, adapted to races with many players.
The principle
Every player starts at 1500. At the end of each race, you are compared with every other player who finished, as if it were a duel: finishing ahead of them is a win, behind them a loss.
For each duel, the system works out your chances of winning from the ELO difference. Winning a duel you were expected to lose earns a lot; winning an expected duel earns little. The final change is the average of all these duels, multiplied by the K factor.
A few examples
For a duel won between established players (K = 32):
- 1500 beats 1500: +16.0
- 1500 beats 1700: +24.3
- 1700 beats 1500: +7.7
In a race with many players, these gains and losses are averaged: winning a race against strong opponents is what earns the most.
The map type matters
Not all maps are equal: a race on a hard map weighs more. Each map type has a coefficient that multiplies both the gains and the losses of the race.
| Type | Coefficient | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| RPG (default) | ×1.5 | counts 50% more |
| Tech | ×1 | normal |
| Fullspeed | ×1 | normal |
| LOL | ×0.7 | counts 30% less |
| Mini-RPG | ×0.7 | counts 30% less |
Example: a win worth +16 on a normal map is worth +24 on a ×1.5 map.
Server rules
- A race counts if at least 2 players finish.
- Only players with a time are counted: not finishing does not cost you points.
- A race interrupted by a map restart is not counted.
- During your first 10 races, your ELO moves faster (K = 48) to place you quickly.
- You appear in the ranking after 5 counted races.
